Explore, Learn About Ancient Egypt in 'Assassins Creed Origins' Discovery Tour

The “Assassin’s Creed” franchise has always been steeped in lore and history, taking players to locations in time with major significance. The latest jaunt, “Assassin’s Creed Origins,” will explore the deep culture and iconography of ancient Egypt.

In all the environments where the war between the Assassins and Templars has waged, the game is filled with historical moments and characters that are identifiable with the era. Ben Franklin during the American Revolution or Leonardo da Vinci during the Renaissance are just a few examples of how the developers wanted real historical connections to their games so that the shadow war would seem possible, if not probable.

The worlds have always been expansive, but exploring London during the Industrial Age was more about getting from place to place rather than touring the Tower of London. However, a new mode in “Assassin’s Creed Origins” will let players roam Egypt in the time of the pharaohs without having to worry about a poisoned dagger in their back.

In this mode, players can freely move around the entire environment of ancient Egypt, free from combat, story, or time limitations. The Discover Tour will offer guided tours created by historians and Egyptologists, with visits to the Great Pyramids, information on why mummification was important, or an in depth look at the life of Cleopatra.

Ubisoft has built a huge area to explore. From Alexandria to Memphis and from the Nile Delta to the Great Sand Sea, this educational mode was built specifically for people to learn more about the history of ancient Egypt in an interactive way.

“From the beginning, the ‘Assassin’s Creed’ franchise has always explored pivotal moments in history, from the Third Crusade to the Italian Renaissance, and this year Ancient Egypt,” said Jean Guesdon, creative director of Assassin’s Creed Origins. “It’s a dream come true for us to offer Discovery Tour by Assassin’s Creed: Ancient Egypt.”

“Assassin’s Creed Origins” will be available on Oct. 27 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. The Discovery Tour will be a free update released in early 2018.
